Our story

Holland and Holland was set up ten years ago, built on a lifelong connection to the outdoors. I grew up in a small village in North East Essex, where most days were spent outside on bikes, building camps, playing football, or helping my dad renovate our old house. Landscaping feels like a natural extension of that upbringing. It is familiar, grounding, and shaped by the seasons.

There is no greater satisfaction for me than carefully planning a garden and turning that paper plan into a real space. I enjoy thinking through how a garden will be used and how it should feel over time. Advising on materials is a big part of that process. Choosing finishes that suit the space and work well together matters. Selecting plants is just as important. I enjoy deciding what will grow where and how a garden will evolve as it matures.

One of the best parts of this work is revisiting a garden years later and seeing how it has developed. Watching plants settle in and spaces come to life brings real pride. Gardens should grow with the people who use them.

Outside of work, the garden still plays a big role. When I am left in charge of my two granddaughters, we usually head straight outside. There is sweeping, weeding, planting bulbs, and sowing seeds. They are enthusiastic helpers, even if they need plenty of direction. It is a reminder of why creating outdoor spaces that invite people in really matters.
